Eric L. Stein, P.E.


Principal, Chief Electrical Engineer


Eric Stein is a principal and the chief electrical engineer of The Engineering Studio, inc. (TES).


With over 30 years of professional engineering experience, Eric’s expertise lies in the design and on-site construction supervision of lighting, power distribution, fire alarm/life safety, power quality, and communications systems for commercial, residential, retail, industrial, institutional, and municipal projects. He has extensive experience in project feasibility studies, project scope definition, and construction cost budgeting. In addition, he has over 20 years of experience in the design of plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial, residential, and retail projects.


Eric is a registered member of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), and a registered professional engineer in 10 states including Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. In addition, he is a member of the Electric Association’s Consulting Electrical Engineers (CEE) division. Eric serves on the Building Committee of Congregation Sukkat Shalom of Wilmette, Ill.


In January 2000, along with his business partner, Walter May, Eric founded TES to offer MEPFP engineering expertise for a broad range of projects such as offices, financial institutions, schools, healthcare facilities, mixed-use complexes, and multi-family housing among others.


Eric received a BSEE degree from the University of Kansas.

Walter P. May, P.E., LEED AP


Principal, Chief Mechanical Engineer


Walter May is a principal and the chief mechanical engineer of The Engineering Studio, inc. (TES).


Specializing in the analysis and design of mechanical systems for 30 years, Walter’s scope of responsibilities range from preliminary design, space planning, and construction observation, to feasibility and energy studies, and reports. In addition to mechanical engineering, Walter also has over 15 years of experience in the design of plumbing systems for commercial, residential, and retail projects.


Walter is a LEED® Accredited Professional. He is a registered member of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), and is a registered professional engineer in 11 states including Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.


In January 2000, May, along with his business partner, Eric Stein, founded TES to offer MEPFP engineering expertise for a broad range of projects such as offices, banks and financial institutions, schools, healthcare facilities, mixed-use complexes, and single- and multi-family housing among others.


Walter received a BSArchE degree from the University of Kansas, in addition to further study at the University of Dortmund in Germany.

The principals of The Engineering Studio have a combined 60 years of experience. Most of The Engineering Studio’s team members are Illinois registered Professional Engineers, making the company one of the most experienced mid-sized engineering firms in the area.

The level of computer knowledge among our team members allows The Engineering Studio to provide detailed design concepts that are seamlessly integrated with each project’s architectural and structural design, which helps in managing and ensuring a project runs smoothly and efficiently. In addition to its computer knowledge, all of The Engineering Studio’s computer software is licensed to enhance customer confidence.

The Engineering Studio responds to client needs. Its professionals have the ability to respond quickly to design and field changes that may occur, which allows the project to continue moving toward a successful on-time completion.

Qualified:

The principals of The Engineering Studio are registered in more than 10 states and have the capability of obtaining professional licensing in other states as required to meet project deadlines. The firm has LEED® Accredited Professionals and the associated experience, and is pre-qualified with the State of Illinois Capitol Development Board for each discipline (MEPFP).
